Sentry preference refresh

Hi

Using sentry preferences it is possible to control access to persons in an Online installation. However, in an Online environment, preference caches are refreshed only every 10 minutes, see here. This means that any restriction of visibility implemented by sentry preferences becomes only effective within this time. Thus, a new person record is visible according to standard security for up to 10 minutes.

1. Is it possible to shorten the refresh time interval for Online customers to say 1 minute?

2. In an onsite installation, where can I set the refresh time interval?

Hi Marc,

No, the preference timeout is a hardcoded value that cannot be changed.

The requirement sounds like a code-smell situation where you are trying to do something that the system was not designed to do, possibly as a means to side-step the lack of support for sentry plug-ins in the online environment. 

I think the only thing to do is email a feature request to wish@superoffice.com.

I admit the requirement comes from a customer that is both paranoid regarding visibility and does not trust its users. Of course, it contradicts the collaboration principle of seeing each other's activities as far as possible, and does not make much sense in a CRM solution.

Besides that, would it be feasible to provide a new global CRMScript function to refresh sentry preferences? This would perfectly solve the requirement.

No, it would not be feasible, not doable, no bueno. No workaround. Do not promote this unworkable approach.
