Move database to a new database server

In this article

Here are two different ways of moving your database to a new server

1 - If you have access to both database servers from the same computer - REBUILD

Create a new empty database and set up an ODBC datasource for the new server (see SQL server database or Oracle database)

    Start DBSetup.exe and choose operation Rebuild an existing 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 7.0 or 7. database.

In Source database add the information for the OLD database server

In Target database add the information for the NEW database server

When the process has finished successfully the database with all users is copied to the new database server. Now make sure you update the mst files so new clients are installed pointing to the correct database, both SuperOffice.ini and SuperOffice.config have references to where the database is located.

2 - If you need to send the database to the other computer - Export the database and Import it on the new server

On the old database server, start DBSetup.exe and choose Export a database to file. Add a location and file name, and the correct information for the Source database.

After the process has finished successfully, take the *.sda file to the new database server.

Set up a new database on the new location (see SQL server database or Oracle database)

On the new server start DBSetup.exe and choose Import a database from file. Add the location and file name of the *.sda file from the old server and enter the correct information in Target database.

When the process has finished successfully the database with all data is copied to the new database server. Now make sure you update the mst files so new clients are installed pointing to the correct database, both SuperOffice.ini and SuperOffice.config have references to where the database is located.

Both ways will ensure that the users, groups and data known to our database dictionary is transferred correctly
