Hide WebTools download dialog?

Hi,

we're going to upgrade a big customer (1000+ users) from 8.0 SR4 to 8.2 R04, and need to make some changes when it comes to how WebTools is deployed. The users are not local admins, and WebTools will be pushed out by local IT.

Two questions.

1. Is it possible to hide the dialog that pops up, so that the users NEVER see it?

2. In earlier versions it was possible to lock web to a specific version of WebTools by adding this.

Does this still work in 8.2 where WebTools is no longer downloaded from local server but instead from SuperOffice centrally?

RE: Hide WebTools download dialog?

Anyone know?

Hi Frode,

Looking in source, it still seems relevant - sets a WebToolInstallation-related class property called SupressVersionsNewerThan to the specified version.

Best regards.

RE: Hide WebTools download dialog?

Hi Emilija,

As far as i notice, this will only stop the new updates being pushed.

When a client starts with a fresh browser (and having no cache) they will always get this popup, eventhough if the system administrators allready distributed the tools and configured them with batch scripts. So the users get a meaningless popup that they need to skip, and uncheck the checkbox.

I would love to see an way to disable this dialog completly, especially in the case where they use VDI clients in a configuration where they never keep Cookies at all. So each time when the user nagivates to SuperOffice web they get the popup.

Hi Serkan,

Does this mean we can now disable this splash-screen also for Online-customers? In other words, we can finally tell hosting-partners that they dont need to roll out new packages on TS/Citrix 'all the time'? I see the bug is tagged with online, but i want to make sure this actually works before i even try it out.

Options seems to work in online. I quickly tested in our online environment. There are two new settings related to this: "Offer to install Web tools" and "Offer to upgrade Web tools".

RE: Hide WebTools download dialog?

Good to see that you like it :-)

Just one reminder:

This should never be the default solution.

We release new versions of WebTools beacause it allways are improvements that solves IMPORTANT issues for our users. In general, we recommend all our users to run the last released version of WebTools. Some times it is even critical that users upgrade, and if customers turn this off, it is almost impossible for us to reach them with information that they should upgrade.

We will plan for a future solution where users can subcribe to news. Until then, people should follow our release notes from time to time if the choose to disable this dialog...

Have a Super day
