New behavior regarding WebTools?

Hi,

Just want to start by mentioning that all the customers/users are not able to use/install Web Tools so it's not the solution in this case 🙂

We've had customers contact us that they aren't able to download files anymore from SuperOffice and a lot of their files got locked by their own user.
I tried uploading a file to their environment and it was directly locked/edited by my own user. It is also not possible to download the file at all, nothing happens when you click read or download.

After some investigating we noticed that there is a new option for Document editing under "Local Settings" per user which defaults to Use SuperOffice WebTools even though they have never chosen to use it. By changing option to Manually uploading and downloading files it is now possible to download files again without WebTools which has never been an issue before.

So I got a few questions

  1. Is the new behavior as it should be or is there any changes coming to make it working as before/default to Manually uploading and downloading files?
  2. Is there a way to set a global (initial) setting for Document editing?
  3. Any way to update the value for all users? (I've tried scripting it but can't find any values in userpreference-table where the other settings are)

Sadly is value is only as cookie, not as userpreference. Also not available as preference to be configured in the admin.

See my post here https://community.superoffice.com/en/technical/forums/api-forums/service-crmscript/get-information-from-the-document-editing-field/

I asked support to register a bug/wish for storing this as userpreference / preference description.

Thats unfortunate. I understand that the setting is stored per computer (cookie) since you might have a Webtools on one computer but not the other. However I don't understand why Webtools is the default option which breaks the function to download files which is a very basic functionality in a system.

Hi,

Thank yoy for your feedback. We had an approach to this that seemed unfortunate, setting the default to "Use SuperOffice WebTools". We thought we could discover that you actually could open WebTools or not, and if you couldn't, give you a dialog for downloading WebTools. If you declined download (answered no, closed the dialog), the setting would be set to"Manually uploading and downloading files". It turned out that our auto-detection did not work.

So for now, the user must manually set this setting and from version 10.3.4 the default will be "Manually uploading and downloading files". Version 10.3.4 of CRM Online is about to be rolled out.

It would be great if this preference is stored in the database instead of a cookie and it configurable as a admin (preference description, just like almost all other preferences in SuperOffice). With this new default users that delete cookies on browser restart will have to configure this every time.
